Dear Editor:
Page One in partnership with the Society of St. Andrew gleaning network will be receiving and distributing a tractor trailer load of watermelons at Page United Methodist Church (1062 Springfield Rd., Luray) from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Society of St. Andrew (SOSA) is an organization headquartered in Big Island, Va. dedicated to food rescue. For more than 40 years, SOSA has been dedicated to feeding the hungry by organizing volunteer gleaning operations, working with farmers who have excess produce, gathering and packaging food, and distributing it to local food pantries and feeding ministries in Virginia and beyond.
All are welcome to drive in and pick up a free watermelon. After 12 p.m. other food pantries will be picking up the leftovers.
