Local FCCLA chapters receive multiple awards and recognition at state conference

FCCLA Chapters from Page County Schools

VIRGINIA BEACH, April 12-14 — The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapters from Luray Middle School, Luray High School, Page Middle School and Page High School attended the Virginia State Leadership and Recognition Conference April 12-14 in Virginia Beach. The conference provided a platform for students to showcase their talents, engage in enriching sessions, and participate in competitive events.

“I think I speak for all the Page County FCCLA advisers when I say, we are immensely proud of our students’ accomplishments at the Virginia State Leadership and Recognition Conference,” said Lindy Burns, LMS FCCLA adviser. “Their dedication, teamwork, and passion for service exemplify the spirit of FCCLA.”

FCCLA chapters in Page County are dedicated to empowering students to become leaders in their families, careers, and communities. Through dynamic programs and engaging activities, FCCLA members develop essential skills in leadership, communication, and teamwork while making a positive impact in their school and beyond.

The Luray Middle School FCCLA chapter’s Myla Gilmer and Kendall Alger earned a silver medal in the “Focus on Children” category. Madison Eavey and Addison Carney clinched a gold medal in their category of “Chapter Service Project”, granting them the opportunity to represent LMS in Seattle, Washington, this summer at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference. In addition to individual accolades, the LMS chapter received a membership recognition award for a significant increase in membership this year. Special recognition goes to Myla Gilmer for earning the coveted Ultimate Leader Pin.

“Myla’s exemplary leadership, positive attitude, and outstanding behavior during the trip exemplify the core values of FCCLA and inspire her peers to strive for excellence,” Advisor Burns said.

Luray High School’s FCCLA chapter received the Platinum Level Outstanding Chapter Award, recognizing its exemplary commitment to FCCLA values and initiatives The chapter’s remarkable membership recruitment efforts earned it the esteemed Millionaire Chapter designation. The LHS chapter was also honored with the 50-plus membership trophy, underscoring its dedication to fostering a vibrant FCCLA community and the title of “Go For the Red ” Membership Chapter, reflecting its commitment to membership growth and engagement.

The LHS chapter earned seven national program ribbons, along with a public relations ribbon, highlighting its active involvement and impactful initiatives within the FCCLA community. A standout achievement was the triumph of the LHS Parliamentary Procedure STAR Event team, which clinched first place gold, and a trophy in their category. Team members Syd Drain, Victoria Shoop, Jayden Harris, and Virginia Grieb demonstrated exceptional skill and teamwork, earning the opportunity to compete at the National FCCLA Conference in Seattle, Washington, this summer.

Syd Drain also received the Ultimate Leader pin and her State Certificate for being a finalist in the National Fall Conference online challenge test. Alexis Fleenor was honored with the “Spirit of FCCLA” certificate, recognizing her dedication and enthusiasm. Lilly Rose was presented with a prize from Regent University for her participation in the FCCLA College and Business Expo drawing.

April Smith of LHS was bestowed with the esteemed “Master Advisor” status and plaque, acknowledging her exceptional dedication, guidance and mentorship she provides her students.

Tatum Pendergast, of the Page County Middle School FCCLA chapter, secured a silver medal and 2nd place in Entrepreneurship. Lizzy Wood, of PCMS, claimed a gold medal and 2nd place in Fashion Construction. Teammate Atari Good earned a silver medal and 2nd place in Hospitality, Tourism, and Recreation. Elizabeth Seals and Maddie Strock triumphed with a gold medal and 2nd place in Professional Presentation. Anthony Cutchin-Ayala demonstrated excellence with a silver medal in Event Management. Nevaeh Jewell and Layla Sellers exhibited creativity, earning a silver medal in Repurpose and Redesign. Five PCMS students qualified for the prestigious National Leadership Conference in Seattle, Washington, scheduled for June.

In addition to individual achievements, the PCMS FCCLA chapter itself was named a platinum-level chapter, recognizing its exemplary commitment to FCCLA values and initiatives. The chapter’s remarkable membership recruitment efforts earned it the esteemed middle level membership award. Lizzy Wood, Tatum Pendergast, Atari Good, and Elizabeth Seals were recognized as Power of One Completers, a National Program that helps students find their personal power.

Lizzy Wood, of PCMS, was also the recipient of the esteemed Spirit of FCCLA award, recognizing her dedication and enthusiasm at the conference. Atari Good, Tatum Pendergast, and Lizzy Wood, earned the coveted Ultimate Leader Pin. Their exemplary leadership, positive attitude, and outstanding behavior during the trip exemplify the core values of FCCLA.

The PCMS chapter also earned participation ribbons in six FCCLA national programs, highlighting the chapter’s commitment to excellence and community engagement.

Representing the true spirit of FCCLA, the Page High School FCCLA chapter was honored with the prestigious Platinum Level Outstanding Chapter designation, emphasizing their commitment to excellence in membership recruitment and dedication to the association’s values. Additionally, PCHS achieved the Millionaire Membership Chapter recognition and reached the remarkable milestone of 300-plus memberships, demonstrating their unwavering dedication to the FCCLA community.

The students of PCHS showcased their passion and creativity, earning eight national program ribbons and a public relations ribbon, highlighting their active involvement and impactful initiatives within the FCCLA. Furthermore, the chapter was awarded the Foundation Donor – Bronze Star, recognizing their commitment to supporting the FCCLA Foundation.

From the PCHS chapter, Sadie Rodriguez and Seth McCoy earned the Ultimate Leader Pin for their exemplary contributions. Moreover, several PCHS students excelled in STAR Events, with Whitney Miner and Mariah Turpen earning Gold and Trophy in Chapter Service Project Display, Level 3; and Sadie Rodriguez secured Gold and Second Place in Chapter Service Project Portfolio, Level 3. Additionally, Maryn Cave, Ava Keyser, and Alia Rhinehart secured a Silver and Trophy in the category of Chapter Service Project Portfolio, Level 2. Seth McCoy and Mady Murphy clinched Gold and Second Place in the category of Repurpose and Redesign, Level 3. Allyssa Lucas and McKenzie Jewell took home a Gold and Trophy in the category of Repurpose and Redesign, Level 2. Riley Anders and Bekah Seals clinched a Gold and Trophy, Interpersonal Communications, Level 2. Kaylee Kite earned a Gold and Trophy in Promote and Publicize, Level 3.

State President Manuel Coronel Cardoso of PCHS concluded a remarkable term serving Virginia FCCLA, advocating for Career and Technical Education and FCCLA on Capitol Hill and representing the state at numerous conferences and events. Additionally, Joey Miller of PCHS was elected as State Vice President of Parliamentary Law.

Several students were recognized for their outstanding performance in competitive events, including Seth McCoy for National First Place in Hospitality and Tourism Challenge Testing, Level 3, and Whitney Miner for National First Place in FCCLA Knowledge Testing, Level 3.

The Page County Public Schools FCCLA chapters continue to uphold a tradition of excellence, showcasing the talent, dedication and passion of its members in promoting family and consumer sciences education and leadership development.
