LURAY, Jan. 25 — Today marks National Poll Worker Recruitment Day, and in a time when election results are so closely scrutinized, volunteers are needed now more than ever.

“National Poll Worker Recruitment Day is [Tuesday] Jan. 25. Signing up to be a poll worker is a great way to
ensure that elections this November are safe, secure, and accessible,” reads promotional material for the event. “Did you know that signing up to work the polls helps to strengthen our electoral system, gives back to your community, and ensures safe, secure, and accessible elections for all?”

Although it is a voluntary position, most poll workers are paid a modest fee for their efforts.

To sign up locally, contact Page County Voter Registrar Carol Gaunt by email at cgaunt@pagecounty.virginia.gov or by phone at (540) 743-3986.
